Since 1870 St. John Lutheran Church has been part of the Allendale community. Our current buildings have been God’s home for us for 50 years, ever since we moved across the corner. We meet here each Sunday to hear God’s Word of love, to have our babies baptized, our souls nourished, and our love encouraged.
As Lutherans we are Christians, Christians who believe that the Gospel of God’s love for us in Jesus is what makes a good life truly possible. That gracious love is the basis for all of our Lutheran theology and for all of the good work we hope to do in our daily lives. We are proud to be associated with other Lutherans in the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, where we work together to educate pastors and teachers for our congregations and schools, to send out missionaries throughout the world, and to engage in serious short and long-term relief of suffering in the world.
While our main activity together is Sunday worship and education, we also gather at other times for fun together, and to plan ways to serve our community. Activities are planned and driven by our members. When one of us has an idea, we tell others, coordinate efforts and make it happen. The guiding principle is that God loves us in Jesus and so we are to love one another.
Pastor Metcalf has served us since 1998. He was educated to be a pastor at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO, and received further education to be a limited license psychologist at Western Michigan University, graduating in December 2000.
Come visit us on Sunday mornings -- we’d love to meet you.
