GVSU Campus Lutherans and St. John 3rd U-Pick EventA great way to take a break from classes is to spend some time in an apple orchard. The weather on the afternoon of Friday, October 17 was perfect for such a break. The target this time was Jonagold apples. The apples were nearly the size of softballs, so the 7 half bushels of apples were picked in record time. The students are very excited to be able to help their fellow GVSU Students in need by donating all the apples to GVSU Replenish. One of our students is allergic to apples, but felt compelled to help. This event brings our total picked to 19 half bushels of apples for Replenish since August 2025. God Bless our Campus Lutherans!

The weather forecast for the afternoon of September 21 was filled with rain. God granted us a window of sunshine so that we could once again enjoy the beautiful Michigan fall weather and pick apples to benefit students in need through donations to GVSU Replenish. We picked 7 half bushels of Gala apples with a bit of friendly competition. The true winners are the students that will enjoy the efforts of the afternoon.
Once the picking was complete, the students picked a “Right Now” apple. These apples were to eat RIGHT NOW!
The original plan was to pick apples on 3 different occasions this fall, targeting different varieties of apples each time. The students are enjoying themselves so much that they are now planning 2 more events before the fall harvest ends. What a blessing!

Partnership Provides Fresh Produce for GVSU Students

God has turned our eyes toward helping students in need at GVSU through Replenish. Replenish is an organization that helps students meet their basic needs through donations of food, personal care items, laptop loans and more.
St. John has partnered with our GVSU Campus Lutherans Organization and local farmers to provide fresh produce to Replenish. Students are enjoying fresh peaches, tomatoes, melons and apples.
Volunteers from GVSU Campus Lutherans spent time in a local apple orchard (Farmhaus Farms) picking apples on September 5. A total of 5 half bushels were picked for Replenish. After picking apples, the volunteers enjoyed fresh donuts made at the Farm. The apples were delivered immediately to Replenish.
There are 2 additional U-pick events planned, as different apple varieties ripen through the season.
